Shortly after graduating from UCA Farnham in the early 00’s Rich took over Foyle Tiles, a hand producer of high fired stoneware tiles. During twenty years of owning Foyle they carried out a range of prestigious commissions, including the new Pavillion at Tate Gallery in St Ives, The V&A gift shop (a collaboration with Grymsdyke Farm) and the extraordinary 24 Saville Row, a collaboration with ceramic artist Kate Malone and EPR Architects.
Rich’s own ceramics makes reference to historical deign patterns. It draws on themes of British Colonialism and the way in which the UK has been enriched by an eclectic mix of cultural styles, as migration has brought with it a rich source of influence. Images and narratives associated with the colonies, and personal experiences as a British Citizen form the core influence within Rich’s work.
