Jorgen Hansen studied ceramics in Europe and Canada, including a period with Bernard Leach. Specialising in thrown domestic ware he felt the need for a more dramatic expression and in 1994 made his first firingsculpture for an art museum in Denmark. He has now created 19 individual firing sculptures in Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Australia and Iceland. His dramatic works are created as a response to the locality, and take up to three weeks to build before the firing finale when the sculpture becomes its own kiln and fires to 1200 centigrade
