Halima Cassell MBE FRSS (b.1975) is a British sculptor working in many materials. Born in Pakistan, brought up in Lancashire and now living in Shropshire, Cassell’s broad, multi-cultural background is tangibly present in her work.Cassell’s work uses strong geometric elements with recurrent patterns from nature and architecture. The precise lines and dramatic angles suggest the universal language of number to create an unsettling sense of movement and playful dynamism. To achieve these effects, she carves into thick surfaces or simple solid forms of unfired clay.
Her work is on show in Natural Connections Aberystwyth Arts Centre (April-July 2023) and her major installation Virtues of Unity can be seen during the Festival.
