I have worked in the heritage and tourism sectors across the UK for over 30 years. Through this time my passion for telling the stories of South Wales and the people that drove the Industrial Revolution has heightened as my knowledge about the area’s history and geology has increased. This professional passion has now been combined with my new love, ceramics. I studied for Contemporary Design Crafts BA at Hereford College of Arts(graduating summer 2017.I experimented with many media, before discovering my passion for ceramics, and in particular, porcelain. I then went on to study Ceramics MA at Cardiff School of Art and Design (graduating
September 2018).
In my practice, I incorporate texture and narrative within my work, often creating very simple forms that carry the intended message. I seek to combine my professional interests with my ceramics, developing a narrative about the people, geology and history of south Wales, in individual vessels, or as combined installations. I hope to be able to balance creating installations and exhibitions on specific themes with the production of retail porcelain. I am currently lucky to have been awarded a Graduate Workshop for a year at Fireworks Clay Studios in Cardiff, and I am constructing my own workshop in Abergavenny.
