Natasha Mayo is a figurative ceramist who explores how thought can be channeled and reveal itself through gesture, pose, and the responsiveness of our skin, often conveying reaction without us even realizing. It is an approach that offers rich possibilities for the content of ‘thinking through the skin’, more exciting still for the ways in which knowledge can be seen as travelling through the body.
As recipient of the 2023 Ceramics Residency Award at the International Ceramics Studio, Hungary, Natasha will be talking about her extraordinary experience and encouraging others to make the journey. It was a trip vastly enriched by a further invitation to take part in the ‘International Figurative Symposium’ running at the same time, expanding her practice through workshops, public lectures and discussion with the other international figurative artists taking part. Her work ‘Palimpsest’ was selected to become part of the studios Contemporary Ceramics Collection – a major collection in European and international ceramics.
Natasha’s project and travel were generously supported by a Wales Arts International grant. Look in advance at the online catalogue for the 24th International Symposium ‘Figurative Ceramics:
